Process DJI L3 LiDAR missions into SmartData-ready point clouds

SmartData is adding a DJI L3 workflow that turns raw mission data into georeferenced, colourised, streamable point clouds for review, sharing, and downstream analytics.

Status

Early access

Best-fit audience

Survey teams capturing DJI L3 missions

SmartData LiDAR point cloud visualisation

Built for LiDAR programs where DJI L3 raw missions need to become map-aligned, browser-ready evidence without a manual DJI Terra handoff.

Terra-free L3 processing path for teams who want repeatable SmartData delivery.
Multi-return LiDAR attributes for canopy, ground, powerline, and forestry analysis.
One workflow from raw mission to hosted point cloud, QA report, and shareable viewer.

What this unlocks

Connect source data, SmartData processing, hosted views, and review outputs so operational teams can move from capture to decisions with less file handling.

01.x and 17.x DJI L3 firmware families

RPOS-based local-to-UTM georeferencing

Geometry, intensity, return numbers, and RGB colourisation

LAS/LAZ artifact retention with browser-streaming point cloud views

QA reporting against available LDRT references

Attribute preservation for forestry, corridor, and terrain analytics

Workflow story

1

Upload or hand off a complete DJI L3 mission folder with LDR, RPOS, CLI, and optional imagery.

2

Decode the L3 mission into measured returns with range gates and segment-aware reporting.

3

Fit the trajectory to UTM from RPOS, embed CRS, and preserve local-frame outputs where needed.

4

Tile the cloud for SmartData viewing and keep downloadable LAS/LAZ artifacts.

5

Surface QA metrics, colour coverage, point counts, and processing status for review.

Commercial use cases

  • Terra-free L3 processing path for teams who want repeatable SmartData delivery.
  • Multi-return LiDAR attributes for canopy, ground, powerline, and forestry analysis.
  • One workflow from raw mission to hosted point cloud, QA report, and shareable viewer.

Delivery notes

  • Decoder evidence covers both L3 firmware families and measured-return output.
  • Georeferencing is based on RPOS lat/lon trajectory fit rather than scene ICP.
  • Broader availability depends on SmartData processing validation and supported mission packaging.

Common questions

Straight answers about inputs, availability, outputs, and where human review still matters.

Can customers upload arbitrary DJI L3 folders today?

The workflow is being productised for controlled SmartData processing. Complete mission folders and supported packaging are required so the worker can validate segments, georeference output, and report QA.

Does this replace DJI Terra?

The goal is to remove the dependency on a Terra export for supported L3 processing paths. Some teams may still compare against Terra deliverables during QA or transition.

What outputs can teams review?

The workflow is designed to produce colourised point clouds, retained LAS/LAZ artifacts, QA reporting, and hosted SmartData views for team review.
